Grassington for walkers

Three different ways to leave the village on foot, from an easy riverside route to a longer woodland circuit.

Grassington works well for a walking day because the National Park car park, village centre, River Wharfe and several established routes all sit close together.

The easy option

The Grassington Miles Without Stiles route is 1.7 km. The National Park describes a well-surfaced start, followed by an unsurfaced riverside section, with some relatively steep gradients.

The meadow option

Grassington Meadows is a 5.5 km low-level route through the meadows above the village. It gives you a countryside walk without committing to the higher moor.

The longer river-and-woods option

Grass Woods is 7.5 km and follows the River Wharfe through Linton Falls, Gaistrill’s Strid and the woods.

Build food around the walk

For a village-centre finish, pair the longer walk with The Foresters Arms. For a day that takes you toward Linton, the Fountaine Inn gives you another pub-and-food option.

Route conditions can change. Use the National Park’s own current route information and maps before setting out.
